Job Title: Cleaners
Department: [Department of Public Works and Infrastructure]
Salary: R125,373 per annum (Level 2)

Purpose of the Position:
The Department of public works is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and responsible individual to fill the position of Cleaner. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all facilities and offices are kept clean and hygienic in line with occupational health and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing, and vacuuming
  • Empty bins and remove waste to designated collection areas
  • Clean kitchens, restrooms, offices, boardrooms, corridors, and other areas as required
  • Refill supplies such as toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels
  • Ensure cleaning materials and tools are properly used and stored
  • Identify and report maintenance issues to the supervisor
  • Comply with occupational health and safety regulations
  • Support ad hoc tasks as required by the line manager or supervisor

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 10 or ABET Level 4
  • Minimum of 1 year relevant cleaning experience (advantageous)
  • Basic literacy and communication skills
  • Must be physically fit and able to perform manual cleaning tasks
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays when required
  • No criminal record

  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures and use of cleaning equipment
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain high levels of hygiene and cleanliness
  • Time management and reliability
  • A strong sense of responsibility and accountability

Conditions of Employment:

  • The successful candidate will be subject to personnel suitability checks including a criminal record, citizenship, financial record, qualification verification, and employment history
  • Shortlisted candidates may be required to undergo a practical cleaning assessment
