Eskom- Hospitality Learnership X10 Positions

The Learner Hospitality X10 position is a 24-month fixed-term contract opportunity offered by Eskom under the Eskom Academy of Learning. This role is based in Midrand and falls within the Electricity, Energy, and Water Supply industry, specifically in the hospitality, catering, tourism, and travel job category. The position is currently open for applications and offers market-related remuneration. It is not classified as an Employment Equity (EE) position and is ideal for individuals seeking structured workplace learning and professional development within a reputable organization.

The primary purpose of this role is to assist the Executive Chef with the overall management and daily operation of the kitchen. This includes supporting both administrative and operational functions to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the hospitality department. The learner will be exposed to practical workplace experience while gaining insight into leadership, food production, customer service, and compliance with industry standards.

A strong focus of the role is leadership development. The learner will be involved in training and developing employees within the department, contributing to individual performance management, and practicing sound time management. Understanding and applying ethical principles and moral standards is essential, as well as learning the core management functions of planning, leading, organizing, and controlling. The role also includes supporting departmental goal-setting, monitoring measurable objectives, and understanding disciplinary procedures and grievance handling in line with organizational policies.

From a behavioral perspective, the position requires good leadership qualities, a pleasant and professional demeanor, and the ability to maintain positive customer relationships. The learner must be able to work effectively under pressure while maintaining service excellence and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.

The role also emphasizes the development of industry-related knowledge. Learners are expected to gain an understanding of current market trends within the hospitality industry, including food and beverage operations and basic financial principles. Knowledge of hygiene standards, maintenance requirements, and growth targets is important. The learner will also participate in ISO processes and conduct benchmarking exercises within the same sector to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with best practices.

In terms of skills, the successful candidate should demonstrate strong verbal and written communication abilities, sound administrative skills, and practical cooking competence. Creativity in food presentation and concept development is encouraged. The learner will also assist in managing income and expense streams while ensuring financial ratios are maintained.

Key responsibilities include food preparation and production, stock control, administrative support, customer service delivery, and ensuring strict compliance with health and safety regulations. Learners will be expected to contribute positively to the department’s operational efficiency and service quality.

The minimum requirement for this role is:

National Diploma or National N Diploma in Catering Management,

Hospitality and Catering Services,

Hotel School qualification at NQF Level 6 with 240 credits
